Autophagy is one of the two major degradation processes, and its disruption can lead to several pathologies. Therefore it is critical to identify new proteins, complexes and functions within this pathway. Our research focuses on studying the molecular mechanisms of autophagy, with special interest in selective autophagy. We are currently trying to understand the role of mitochondrial dynamics proteins (Gordaliza-Alguero et al., Autophagy, in press) and TP53INP2, the positive regulator of autophagy, in different selective autophagies, to decipher their precise role and to identify possible druggable targets for metabolic diseases and cancer.
